Nkc Geotech Ltd :: Home Page ::

I am an engineering mining geologist specialising in the investigation and treatment of disused mineworkings throughout the UK, based in the North Wales coal and lead mining area.

Coal and metalliferous mining were major industries in the UK until the middle of the 20th century. The legacy of their operations remains with disused mining tunnels and abandoned mineshafts.

These features continue to pose a threat to the stability of the ground. The intention of this site is to explain the nature of these hazards and to provide information on the remedial treatment required.

Company Information

Nkc Geotech Ltd has been based in Wrexham, North Wales, since 1973, and over the last 36 years I have accumulated extensive plans and records for the counties of Lancashire, Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham.

I studied geology at Burnley and Leigh Grammar Schools, then worked for South Lancs Boring at the Windy Arbour Colliery (at that time owned by Rigby Brothers) near Wigan during university holidays from 1967 to 1970. After graduating, I worked for the successor to South Lancs, SLB(UK) Ltd in Pemberton and supervised all their mining investigations in the UK before leaving the company and buying my own drilling equipment to set up Nkc Geotech Ltd in Wrexham in 1973.

I carry out all the work - desktop and on site - personally. Consequently, there are no unsupervised personnel, no white vans, no smokers, and no unqualified labourers. This is important as the work on site has potential risks to ground stability, noxious gas emissions, and structural damage.
